ILGP will hold a State Membership Meeting on March 2 on the outskirts of Carbondale. All members are encouraged to attend!
Business for the Weekend
Annual officer elections will occur at the meeting. As of this time, due to potential bylaws changes at the meeting, we are not certain which offices will be up. It will either be Chair, Secretary, and Membership Steward; or all state offices will be up. In addition, we are awaiting the biennial reapportionment of seats to the Green National Committee to determine how many seats Illinois will have for 2013-2014. We estimate that we will have 7 seats, all of which will likely be up at this meeting.
In addition to officer elections, comprehensive bylaws changes are expected to be on the agenda.
Here is the general schedule for the weekend:
Friday, March 1
ILGP Social at Cristando’s, 207 S. Illinois Ave., Carbondale, 6-11pm.
Saturday, March 2
ILGP State Membership Meeting at The Haven, 10289 Haven Lane, Carbondale, 8am-5:30pm. (click for map).
ILGP Fundraising Dinner at Hunan, 710 E. Main St., Carbondale, 6:30-10pm. Advance registration will soon be posted on ilgp.org. The dinner will feature a tribute in memory of long-time Green activist Genevieve Houghton.
Sunday, March 3
ILGP members across the state are encouraged to come out and volunteer for Jessica Bradshaw for Carbondale City Council. Learn about campaign basics the old fashioned way – by doing them! More details about the day will be available soon.
Transportation and Lodging
Amtrak is available from Chicago’s Union Station, with service directly to Carbondale after several intermediate stops that include Champaign-Urbana. See Page 3 of the Amtrak Illinois Services timetable. Seats are currently selling for as little as $26 each way, but the price will go up as seat inventory sells out, so reserve early for the best price if you are going by Amtrak.
There are two hotels within a mile of the Carbondale Amtrak station (located at 401 S. Illinois St.) The nearest hotels are 4 miles from The Haven. ILGP has not reserved a block of rooms at any hotel.
Ride shares from other parts of the state, or ground transportation for people taking Amtrak in, may be available. Email Rita Maniotis for more information.
