MEDIA COORDINATOR / MEDIA COMMITTEE OVERSIGHT
MEDIA COORDINATOR / MEDIA COMMITTEE OVERSIGHT
Posted: February 15, 2006 #5783; revised February 20, 2006 #5813 (agenda)
Approved by the CC as further revised: February 20, 2006 (CC minutes Appendix D #5827)
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE
There has been much confusion over who is doing what and who has oversight and decision-making power over media materials and work.
It is important to separate media work from policy work. It is also important to enable media people to do their work in a timely and efficient manner, while ensuring that messages sent are compatible with party positions.
Persons with a keen interest in how the ILGP is presented to the outside world, and/or generating positive press, are encouraged to join the Media Coordinator/Committee in creating materials, contacting press, etc.
[Policy: Approved by the CC, February 20, 2006]
1. The State Media Coordinator shall be Media Committee Chair and vice-versa.
2. Major print materials, such as brochures and position papers, will be prepared by the Media Coordinator and/or Committee.
3. Major print materials will be made available* to Platform Committee, Media Committee, GEC Committee, and Exec Committee. There will be a one-week period to submit feedback.
4. A person who thinks the copy should be changed should suggest alternate wording, placement, etc. Feedback will not be accepted after the deadline.
5. A revised version will be submitted within one week of the end of the feedback period to the Exec Committee. The revision will be either approved, or sent back for further revision.
6. If sent back for revision, steps 2 and 3 will be repeated.
7. Minor print materials, such as press releases, will be prepared by the Media Coordinator and/or Committee.
8. Minor print materials will be made available to the Exec
Committee. There will be a 24-hour period for feedback and approval. Unless a majority of Exec Committee members oppose the release, it will be released after the 24-hour period. Such materials need approval from at least two ILGP co-chairs and must not be opposed by a majority of co-chairs.
9. Candidates and locals do not need to have their press releases or brochures approved by the ILGP.
[* - One place to upload materials for viewing should be selected, hopefully on the ILGP website. It would also be helpful to have one place for the feedback to be returned and viewable by concerned parties. Phil's suggestion would be that concerned parties sign up for the Media listserv
and send their feedback there.]
