The Green Party

I would like to congratulate the Illinois Green Party on their collective effort to acquire the necessary 25,000 signatures across the state in order to secure ballot placement for their executive slate of progressive candidates.

Election laws in this state are so undemocratically slanted in order to perpetuate the two-party system that third parties have an enormous uphill battle just to get their candidates on the ballot. Not only is this number grossly unfair, but the time given to accomplish this (90 days) is also ridiculous.

However, despite these challenges, the Illinois Green Party was able to mobilize a grassroots movement that garnered more than 39,000 signatures across our state.

Voters are tired of the two-party corpocracy that breeds nothing more than professional politicians rather than sincere public servants. We need change and more choice in our political climate.

The Green Party reflects this need and will continue to work toward ballot access despite an almost certain challenge by the Democrats. What an amazing effort required simply to give voters choice in our democracy. Keep it up, Greens!
