Some possible things to say to encourage people to sign the petition

"Are you a registered voter in Illinois?"

"Are you willing to sign a petition to let a new guy run for governor?

Sympathetic

“Would you like to help establish the Green Party in Illinois?”

“Oh, there’s not a Green Party in Illinois?”

“Well there is, but the law prohibits us from running candidates before Primaries.”

“Hey, that’s not fair!”

“Sign here.”

Average Affirmative

“Would you like to help establish the Green Party in Illinois?

“No!  Oh, you know… all right, sure.”

“Great, thanks.  You’ve just gotta be registered to vote in Illinois.”

Average Negative

“Would you like to help establish the Green Party in Illinois?”

“Yes, yes, yes!”

You’ve just gotta be registered to vote in Illinois.”

“Oh, crap.  I’m <fill in the blank>.”
