Meet Scott Summers, candidate for governor

scott-summersScott Summers is seeking the Illinois Green Party’s nomination for governor in 2014.  Summers brings a formidable skill set to the race: he is an attorney with an MBA degree, a former elected official (trustee at McHenry County College), and the author of two “how-to” books published by the American Bar Association.

Over the years, Scott has been involved in a variety of civic and governmental activities. He is a past member of the Northern Illinois University College of Law’s Board of Visitors, a former Eagle Scout and scout leader, an adult literacy volunteer, and a past board member and treasurer for three nonprofits.  Prior to becoming an attorney, Scott worked as an executive in the public and nonprofit sectors, including four years on the staff of the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission.

In addition to his degree from the NIU College of Law, Summers holds a master’s degree in business administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. His undergraduate degree in liberal arts is from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  Additionally, Scott is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and a Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) arbitrator.

Summers is a lifelong Illinois resident.  Born in Evanston and raised in Wilmette, he also has resided in Chicago and Oak Park.  For over thirty-five years, Scott and his wife have lived on a small farm in rural Harvard.  They have two sons.
