The March 2008 Membership Meeting recommended that the following Draft Platform of the Illinois Green Party be adopted as its official platform for 2008. The Platform is still under consideration and final action will be taken at a later date. Meanwhile this draft is being made available to our members and the general public, for additional review and comment. It is important to recognize that a Platform is not the same thing as the principles of unity that define an organization like ours. Our principles of unity are the 10 Key Values. Our Platform is an expression of the 10 Key Values, translated into concrete analysis, positions on vital issues, and public policy recommendations. It reflects the prevailing understanding of our Party on how to apply the 10 Key Values to the important issues of our time.As such, it is intended as a tool to help inform and guide our members and candidates, as well as inform the public, on where we stand on the issues as a party. However, a person does not have to agree with everything in the Platform in order to be a member of the Illinois Green Party. Anyone who is in agreement with the 10 Key Values, applies for membership and either pays dues or requests a dues waiver, is welcome -- and encouraged -- to join us! -- Rich Whitney, Chair, Platform Committee
