Adding News items and ILGP Press Releases to ILGP.ORG

by Dorian Breuer last modified 2008-02-04 13:57

These area instructions about how to add News Items and ILGP press releases to ILGP.ORG

When updating the news items for the ilgp.org, here are some important things to remember:

1. create the items as a 'news item' in the 'add item' menu of the 'ilgp press releases' or 'ilgp news coverage' folders in the media committee folder. Exact address of the media committee folder is: http://ilgp.org/groups/media/

2. never create the item as an 'article' in that same drop down 'add item' menu (only as a News Item).

3. Please look at past news items in order to find the format we've used to upload articles. It is important, for example, to include a direct link to the home page of the news outlet at the beginning of the news item. We are trying to avoid the charge that we are copyright infringing on their intellectual property.

Example News Item:

4. after you save the news item, you need to go to the proprieties tab and add *TWO* proprieties to press releases or news items. In both cases, you need to add the 'press' property by clicking on it in the list. But you ALSO need to add 'press release' if it is a release or 'press coverage' if it is a news item. You need to highlight both. Do this by holding down the 'cntrl' button while clicking multiple proprieties. These are important because selecting them is how the website places the article around the website (in the press room tab of the home page).

5. then you need to 'publish' the news item/release at the 'state:' option for that item. If you aren't a reviewer status, you won't see this option, you'll see the option to 'submit' and it will go to a reviewer to publish. Only by 'publishing' the news item/release will it appear on the home page.
